Tezos Domains is a distributed, open and extensible naming system using the Tezos blockchain.
The main function is to translate a meaningful and user-friendly alias to it's corresponding Tezos address and vice versa. This translation is globally consistent so that all users see the same address for a given alias.

We are currently planning to price all domains at 1 ꜩ per year.
The initial auction period may drive the prices of popular domains higher. The higher price will only be paid for the first year. Renewals for folowing years will have standard pricing.

Without auctions, people could spam the network with thousands of automatic registration requests within minutes from launch. The default auction period will only take 3 weeks from start to finish, because we want to open Tezos Domains to direct registrations as soon as possible.

Initially, registration will be open for domain names that are at least 5 characters long (not including the top-level domain .tez). We plan on opening registration for shorter domains later this year.
We currently only allow names with latin characters, numbers and hyphens. International (Unicode) names are a strong possibility in the future though.
